Traveling to New York!

Hi!
I am SO thrilled! Hubby and I are actually flying to New York over Christmas. We've talked about it for a month, and now it's actually happening! We booked nonstop flights for the price of a 1-stop flight, so I am not worried about flying with hubby and guide dog.
Questions:
1) Am considering staying in a B&B (www.affordableNewYorkCity.com) or short-term renting an apartment through www.airbnb.com. Has anyone done this? Pros? Cons?
2) Best things to do in NYC? Places to eat?
3) Things to be aware of, with or without guide dog?

So thrilled to go!
